About Mr. Tran
Mr. Tran joined the Dublin Unified School District on July 27th, 2018. He was the first full-time music teacher at Cottonwood Creek School when it opened in August 2018. On March 16th, 2023, Mr. Tran announced that he was the new instrumental music teacher for Emerald High School which is Dublin Unified's Second comprehensive high school.
During the 2023-2024 school year, Emerald High School started off on the campus of Dublin High School which consisted of a freshmen class only. Mr. Tran taught one section of EHS band and one section of EHS orchestra. In addition to building the program at EHS, Mr. Tran was also a music teacher at Dublin High School. He taught band and orchestra courses, assisted the Dublin/Emerald Irish Guard, and was a guest conductor for the Chamber Orchestra's performance at The 2023 Midwest Clinic: International Band and Orchestra Conference.
Outside of the school day, he volunteered his time in a number of capacities:
On a committee for Shamrock Hills TK-8 School to design the music room and provide overall campus feedback.
Participated in the design committee for the Catherine C. Kuo Performing Arts Center (Phase 3 of Emerald High School set to be complete in August 2026).
Helped form the Dublin Junior Varsity Winter Percussion program which opened enrollment and had participation from every secondary school in the Dublin Unified School District (CCS, FMS, WMS, DHS, and EHS).
Mr. Tran is the program director for a new community organization called The CREST Program. This program was designed to offer courses that were not offered in the DUSD school system. In it's inaugural year, this program housed 3rd grade dance, 4th-5th grade dance and color guard, 6th-8th grade winter guard, 5th-8th grade guitar, 6th-8th grade winter drum major, flute ensemble, saxophone ensemble, brass ensemble, chamber orchestra, and a 4th-8th grade mentorship program.
Volunteers at the DPIE/Rotary Fireworks Booth every year by working the booths or doing security in the evenings.
In Cottonwood Creek's 2018-2019 school year, only the following was offered: music classes for grades 1-5 and two periods of band/orchestra for grades 6-8. The program has expanded to four periods of band/orchestra for 6-8, multiple percussion ensembles, a guard program, multiple drum major programs, a symphony orchestra, JV and Varsity marching bands, and jazz band.
Before his time in Dublin, he has taught in the Fremont Unified School District doing numerous assignments from 2012-2020. He was the beginning-advanced band director for seven elementary schools, clarinet specialist and director of bands for the Hopkins Jr. High elementary bands, and American/Mission San Jose/Washington High School attendance area coordinator. He was also the elementary band instructor for the Newark Unified School District in 2018.
He holds a Bachelors of Music Degree with an emphasis in Music Education as well as a California Teaching Credential from San Jose State University.
On May 8th, 2019, Mr. Tran was named the Dublin Unified School District 2018-2019 New Teacher of the Year! In the summer of 2019, Mr. Tran was recognized by the community of Fremont as an MVP at the Fremont Fourth of July Parade.
He has previously performed with the Ohlone Community Band, Newark Symphonic Winds, and the Virtual Concert Band ("On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" and "Sheltering Sky"). Mr. Tran is currently a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and its state affiliate the California Music Education Association (CMEA); the California Band Directors Association (CBDA); the Northern California Band Association (NCBA); the California Orchestra Directors Association (CODA); and the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA).
